- DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

Dosage must be determined individually based on drug effect and resistence, and must not exceed daily mamimum recommendation.
- Usual initial dosage is 500mg of metformin hydrocholoride tablet once a day with dinner.
- Volume must be controlled by measuring blood glucose after a week. Abnormal gastrointestinal response can be improved with gradual dosage increase. Maximum volume is 2000mg per day.
- When increasing dosage, it must be increased by 500mg weekly, and maximum of 2000mg per day can be administered with dinner. If maximum dosage cannot achieve appropriate glucose control, administration of 1000mg twice a day must be considered, which both are taken during meals.
- Patient already treated with metformin has identical initial daily dosage of rapid metformin. Transition to this drug is nor recommended for patient taking rapid metformin tablet over 2000mg a day.
- When starting the treatment or controlling the dose, fasting glucose must be measured to evaluate therapeutic response to the drug and minimum effectivy dose. Serum glycosylated hemoglobin must be measured 3 months apart.
- Goal of this drug is to reduce fasting glucose and blood glycosylated hemoglobin to normal or near-normal level with single administration or combined administration with sulfonylurea or insulin.
