- DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

- As alendronate, 70mg a week is to be administered with ample amount of water in the morning at least 30 mineutes before consuming food, drink, or other drug (refer to general cautions).
- Other beverage, food, drug that contains mineral water or barley tea may decline absorption of the drug (refer interactions). Consuming food within 30 minutes after taking the drug or simultaneously with drug can depreciate drug absorption, making it less effective. This drug has to be taken as soon as the person wakes up in the morning and to reduce risk of esophageal irritation by rapily transferring the drug to stomach, ample water (170 ∼ 230 mL) must be consumed. After dosage, the person must not lie down for at least 30 minutes or untill first consumption of food. When not following such instruction, risk of abnormal esophageal reaction may increase (Refer to warnings and general cautions). When the patient has in sufficient calcium or vitamin D consumption, supplement must be taken (Refer to general cautions).
- Adequate period of medication is not determined. Safety and effectiveness of this drug on osteoporesis is based on clinical evidence of 4 years. All patients taking biphosphonate must be regularly reviewed of consistent administration. Patient with low risk of fracture should be considered of cessation after 3~5 years. Patient who have ceased the medication must be reviewed regularly on the risk of fracture.
- When the patient forgets to take the drug on the specified date, 70mg is taken on the next morning, taken again on the specified date, and then regularly once a week. However, 2 tablets must be not taken on the same day.
