- DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION

This drug is orally adminstered once a day regardless of meal.
Management of diabetes must be customized individually. Most ideal method is to evaluate treatment response based on glycosylated hemoglobin(HbA1c), rather than fasting glucose(FBG). Glycosylated hemoglobin reflects glucose status of last 2~3 months. Clinically this drug must be administered for apt time (at least 3 months) to evaluate change in glycosylated hemoglobin unless diabetic patient shows deteriorated glucose control . As there is no case that uses it on child under 18, presciption is not recommended.
1. Single medication
Initial dose of this drug can be 15 mg daily for patient who does not show sufficient glucose control with dietary and exercise therapy as single medication of pioglitazone. when initial dose of this drug does not achieve sufficient effeect, it can be increased up to 30mg once a day. Combined medication should be considered to patients who do not show appropriate response to single medication.
2. Combined medication
1) Sulfonylurea: this drug can be simultaneously medicated with sulfonylurea drugs, and its initial dose is 15 mg once a day. When using this drug in combined medication, current sulfonylurea drug can be consistently administred in identical manner. However, if patient shows hypoglycemia, sulfonylurea dose must be decreased.
2) Metformin: This drug can be medicated simultaneously with metformin and initial dosage is 15 mg once a day. When using this drug in combined medication, current sulfonylurea drug can be consistently administred in identical manner. It is unlikely to control metformin dose because of hypoglycemia symptoms while in combined medication.
3) Insulin: this drug can be simultaneously medicated with insulin and dose 15 mg once a day. When using this drug in combined medication, previous insulin dose can be consistently administred in identical manner.However, if patient shows hypoglycemia or blood glucose drop to 100mg/dL or less, insulin dose can be decreased to 10~25%. Dose control afterwards is conducted independently based on glucose control status.
• Single medication of maximum recommendation or combined medication with sulfonylurea, metformin, or insulin, dose exceeding 30 mg once a day is not recommended. Dose control in renal failure is not recommended
(Refer to general caution: patients with renal disorder ).
At the start of treatment, when the patient shows clinical evidence of active hepatic disease or increase in serum aminotransferase (2.5 times or more than ULN of ALT), the treatment is not valid (Refer to abnormal response and general caution: hepatic influence). All patients are recommended of regular liver enzyme monitoring before starting and after the treatment . There is no data of administering this drug in combination with other thiozolidinedione.

This drug is administered as supplement for diet and exercise treatment to improve glucose control in T2DM patient.
1. This drug is administered solely.
2. This drug administered in combination in following conditions.
1) If glucose control is insufficient, it should be administered with sulfonylurea, metformin or insulin
T2DM patient still requires nutrition consult, and depending on circumstance, weight loss is required along with exercise treatment. For T2DM patient, such efforts is crucial in early treatment and maintenance .
